The Holsworth Wildlife Research Endowment offers a scholarship programme for post-graduate research on Australian wildlife and ecosystems, as part of the grants and awards established by Dr Bill Holsworth of the Ecological Society of Australia, as a way to fill that gap and promote and facilitate ecological research for Australia’s precious flora and fauna.

Who can apply
Applications are open to Australian PhD students with projects in ecological research.
What can be funded
The endowment is ideal for research into Australian native flora and fauna with preference to:
1. Students in the earlier stages of their projects;
2. Projects with fieldwork on Australian native flora and fauna to answer broader questions of ecological interactions, behaviour, distribution and population dynamics;
3. Projects with a focus on conservation and land management, especially those involving rare or threatened species.

When and how to apply
The endowment is open in rounds or windows within which applicants can submit their project proposals. These are round 1 between 1-31 March and round 2 between 1-31 August each year. An online application form and guidelines are available.
Applicants will need to provide a signed executive summary, referees and academic records as part of the application process.
Project duration
While it depends on the specific project and allocated funding, if grant beneficiaries have more than 2,000 AUD of uncommitted funds from a previous round, they cannot apply for a subsequent round and must wait for a subsequent round when their balance of uncommitted funds is below this.

The results of all funded projects must be sent to the founder, Dr Bill Holsworth and the Ecological Society of Australia. Dr Holsworth is also interested in reading PhD theses of relevant ecological research on Australian flora and fauna which can be e-mailed to him.
